Management of Children Dental Anxiety
The increasing use of dental sedation and general anaesthesia (GA) for anxious children is increasing dramatically. In order to better manage this anxiety we first need to have a fuller understanding of it– to do this we need to be able to quantitatively assess dental anxiety and investigate the reasons for it. This lecture will provide an overview of the nature of dental fear and anxiety and techniques for assessing and managing patients who are anxious about visiting the dentist.
The innovation of this project is by training health workers in general and paediatric dentists in specific via lectures and workshops, in order to protect children from the risks of GA and sedation, and most importantly to prevent dental diseases that are common in anxious patients who are avoiding visiting the dentist. Moreover, it has a direct impact on the economy by reducing the dental treatment costs and the times needed to perform the treatment.
